WILD HORSES OF SABLE ISLAND

As part of my fascination with all things equine, the opportunity to make my first visit to Sable Island was a lifetime must. Located about 300 km off the coast of Nova Scotia, this remote 42-kilometre-long and 1-kilometre-wide island—often known as the Graveyard of the Atlantic due to the more than 300 ships wrecked along its shores—is also home to a herd of about 500 wild horses.

I hope this will be the first of many visits to this extraordinary and untamed home of the wild horses of Sable Island. Untouched by humans, they live in complete harmony with their environment and seem totally at peace in our presence.

Through my images, I hope to convey a little of their peace and tranquility to all who enjoy my images.

On Sable Island, each Stallion has his own band of mares which he protects with all his instinct and power and when the time comes where he no longer can, the natural order of things takes over and a younger fitter model will succeed him. The alpha mare however is ultimately in charge, as that is what works best with the herd.

Hand Prints are available in a variety of sizes and finishes, please do contact us to discuss your requirements, we will be delighted to help.
